Chennai: Vigilance officials today conducted raids at the premises of former DMK minister NKKP Raja in Erode and Chennai districts in connection with a case of possessing disproportionate assets. The raids followed "specific and credible" information that Raja had acquired movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income during May 2006 to March 2010.

The raids were conducted in eight places in Erode, one each in Karur and Chennai, a Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) press release said here. DVAC had yesterday registered a case under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act-1988.

Raja, who was Minister for Handloom and Textiles the previous DMK regime, is the latest among several DMK leaders and former Ministers besides MLAS to face police and DVAC action either on land grab charges or allegations of disproportionate assets after the AIADMK government came to power in April last year. DVAC had earlier conducted raids at the houses of eight former DMK Ministers, J Anbazhagan, MLA and former legislator B Ranganathan.
