Over 150 dead bodies of Balasore train tragedy victims, which are preserved in the mortuaries of AIIMS, Capital Hospital and in other hospitals in Bhubaneswar, haven’t been identified as yet, resulting in the State government facing a big challenge in handing the bodies to their families for last rites.
Altogether 260 people, who were injured in the triple train accident in Balasore, are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals across Odisha, while around 900 have been discharged so far, health department officials said on Sunday.
While the government-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has announced relaxation in the documents to be filed by the nominee/legal heirs of train accident victims, no such public announcements have been made by the two private general insurers who have covered the passengers of the two express trains that met with an accident in Odisha.

The Odisha government has decided to bring about 160 bodies of victims of the tragic train mishap in Balasore to Bhubaneswar for better preservation and to facilitate smooth identification by the family members of the deceased.
