A runny nose is a common condition that happens to all. More often, it can be fixed at home using natural ingredients. Here are a few ways that will help you to get rid of the problem:

1. Drinking Lots of Fluids

Staying hydrated is the first effective way of dealing with a runny nose. Usually, in such a situation, you have symptoms like nasal congestion. Drinking lots of fluids ensures that the mucus caused by sinus thins out resulting in runny consistency and ultimately the mucus is expelled effectively. Also, ensure that you avoid drinks that lead to dehydration like alcohol or coffee.

2. Herbal Teas

Hot beverages such as herbal teas open the decongested airways of the nose with their heat and steam. You can use kitchen and garden ingredients such as turmeric, honey, tulsi, ginger, or mint to prepare herbal tea. Make sure that the ingredients you are using are anti-inflammatory. Prepare the tea and before drinking inhale the steam of those herbs which will open up the congested nose and give relief to a sore throat.

3. Hot Steam

A facial steam is known to help in a runny nose. Steam inhalation is often very effective in reducing illness and sore throats as well. For this take a pot and heat clean water in it enough to create steam. Do not boil the water. Cover your face with a towel and place it above the pan’s surface. Take long breaths and continue to take this facial steam for 20 to 30 minutes or as long as the steam lasts.

Afterwards, blow the nose so that all the thinned mucus comes out. You can add essential oils such as spearmint, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree, sage, or pine to get better results. Dried herbs can also be used instead of essential oils that are readily available over the counter.
