Sambalpur: A kindergarten student was killed and four of her friends injured, one of them seriously, when the van in which they were going to the school collided head-on with a tractor at Kantapalli here on Friday, police said.
The victim identified as Pari Sahu, 4, of St Luke Convent at Burla died on the spot. The seriously injured child was shifted to the V S Medical College Hospital at Burla while the other injured kids were being treated at the nearby J M J Hospital, they said.
Altogether eights students belonging to a nearby village were travelling in the private van in the morning when the mishap happened.
The van was badly mangled under the impact of the collision.
Meanwhile, enraged over the incident, irate people set the tractor on fire and blocked the busy NH-53, where the incident occurred, for several hours.
However, police personnel reached the spot cleared the traffic as hundred of vehicles were seen stranded on either side of the busy road.
