Berhampur: The police today raided the house of arrested BJP leader and former Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Siba Sankar Das alias Pintu and seized four cars and other documents.
The raiding team was accompanied by Das, who will be produced in the court as his remand period will end tomorrow.
The first mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC), who was wanted in several criminal cases, was arrested by a special team of Berhampur police in New Delhi on July 7.
Das was inducted into the BJD in 2008 and elected as councillor of the then Berhampur municipality. When Berhampur got municipal corporation tag, Das became the mayor.
However in 2014, he deserted the BJD and joined the BJP. Last year, he was arrested in connection with the attack on a BJD leader and released on bail. A few months later, he was wanted by the police in connection with a dispute over stone quarry. Subsequently, Das had managed to flee the city.
In his reaction, Das had said on landing in Bhubaneswar after being brought from New Delhi, “It’s a political gimmick of the BJD to arrest me as the panchayat polls are round the corner. The BJD government has arrested me because I left BJD and contested as a MLA candidate on BJP ticket.”
