Rourkela: Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested five miscreants after raids in different hideouts and seized cash Rs 16,000, four mobile phones, one laptop from their possession, GRP sources said today.

The raids were conducted on Thursday night after series of theft cases in the running trains in the Rourkela Railway station. All five were involved in looting of luggage bags and pick pocketing of the passengers in the trains, the sources said.

In another joint raid GRP and forest officials seized about five quintals of Kendu leaf packed in nine bags from a superfast train at Rourkela Railway station. GRP sources said the Kendu leaf were seized from a compartment of a super fast train but the claimant of the consignment escaped after finding the police and forest officials.

In a separate incident excise personnel on a tip off raided a compartment of Tata-Allepy express train at Rourkela railway station last night and seized 200 litres of country liquors and two persons were arrested. The liquor vendors were transporting the country liquor from Manoharpur in neighbouring Jharkhand to Rourkela.
