Terrorists deliberately targeted civilians in an escape bid during an encounter between militants and security forces in south Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.
The two terrorists killed were involved in several terror attacks on migrant labourers hailing outside Jammu and Kashmir in Pulwama district during March and April this year, police said.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.
Also, two army personnel were killed and as many others injured when their vehicle met with an accident while on way to the encounter site, the official said.
Singh also said that during this period, 253 arms were recovered in J&K, 164 in LWE region and 128 in northeast region whereas over 96 kg of explosives were recovered in in Jammu and Kashmir, 1,493 kg in LWE areas and 26 kg in the NE region.
In the exchange of fire, three militants were killed, the official said. Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of the encounter.
The gunfights, which broke out on Saturday night, took place in the Pulwama and Budgam districts of the Kashmir valley.

During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to a gunfight.
The militants were asked to surrender by the CTD personnel, but they started firing indiscriminately and lobbed grenades. A shootout ensued in which six ISIS members were killed while four to five others managed to escape in the dark, the statement said.

Another encounter broke out between the ultras and security forces at nearby Gasu village, police officials said.

In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Nadeem Nazir Bhat, resident of Koil Shikargah, Tral and Rahi Rasool Bhat alias Adil, resident of Kanipora Dadsara.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition, including two AK-series rifles, four AK magazines and 32 rounds were recovered from them.
