All PCC presidents, senior leaders and workers of the Congress party launched a peaceful 'Satyagraha' across the country on Tuesday (July 26), protesting ED summon and questioning of Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald money laundering case. Sonia Gandhi was grilled by ED for six hours today and she has been asked to appear again tomorrow.
Subsequently, Congress parliamentarians, including Rahul Gandhi, sat in protest in front of Vijay Chowk.
Sonia Gandhi was initially summoned to appear again on July 25 but it was changed to July 26 at her request.
The strategic move, a senior police official said, was done by the department to keep an eye on any untoward incident that may have arisen due to Congress' workers protest during this time.
Earlier in the day, Sonia reached the ED's headquarters at around 12.10 p.m and was questioned by a team of additional director Monika Sharma.
The Congress chief is deposing on the third summons as she sought exemption on earlier dates of June 8 and June 23 owing to coronavirus infection.
In a joint move, the floor leaders of the opposition will also meet to chalk out an agenda regarding the session.
ED sources have suggested that she will be asked the same set of questions which were asked to Rahul Gandhi during his five days questioning.
A police officer said the victim, who lives in Delhi, was allegedly raped and threatened of dire consequences by the accused if she reported the matter to the police.
Rahul Gandhi, who wrote to the ED saying that he has to look after his mother Sonia Gandhi who is hospitalised due to Covid related complications, requested the probe agency to resume his questionning on Monday instead of Friday.
Gandhi will have to appear again before the ED on Wednesday when a three-member team will question him.
Sonia Gandhi on June 2 tested positive for Covid-19 infection.
Gandhi, who was summoned by the ED in a case related to the National Herald newspaper, had tested Covid positive on June 2.
The report of Gandhi testing positive for Covid infection has come a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned her and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
