The ace para shuttler from Odisha, who became the first Indian to win a gold medal in badminton, is among the 12 sportspersons selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honour of the country.
Making the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had been getting many requests from citizens across India to name the Khel Ratna Award after Major Dhyan Chand.
The State Department of Sports and Youth Services has nominated the name of ace para shuttler for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, country's highest honour in sports, for the year 2021.
The Sports and Youth services department of the Odisha government has nominated noted sports personalities from the state for the National Sports Awards 2021.
