The District Collector reviewed the current status of the hanging bridge during his visit to the shrine

The move came following the collapse of a century-old bridge in Morbi of Gujarat on Sunday killing 135 people. 

Section 144 has been clamped at Dhabaleswar shrine in Cuttack for carrying out the repair work of the hanging bridge.The prohibitory was ordered by the local administration a day after the horrific incident of the collapse of a cable suspension bridge in Morbi, Gujarat in which 140 people were killed.

Earlier today, the local administration at Athagarh reduced the capacity of the suspension bridge to the Dhabaleswar shrine. Only 200 devotees were allowed to travel through the bridge at a time and later shut the bridge for one day.

Soon after the horrific bridge tragedy at Morbi in Gujarat on Sunday, local administration at Athagarh in Cuttack district has reduced the capacity on the suspension bridge at famous Dhabaleswar shrine.

Only 200 devotees are being allowed to travel through the bridge to the island shrine at a time.

The decision from the administration came in the wake of possible congregation of devotees and general public at the shrine on Diwali. 

A decision on whether devotees would be allowed entry to the island shrine during the festive period will also be announced only after the declaration of the new Covid protocols.
