Legendry cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has compared India’s explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav with former Southpaw Vinod Kambli.

As per the Little Master, both Surya and Kambli were different with their style quotients. However, Kambli received flak from the fans and Surya managed to get rid of it as we are now in a more enlightened time.

“Kambli was different with his style quotient, but that was off the field. On the field, he was reeling off hundreds, yet the discussion was more about his hair style and what he wore. The moment the lean times on the field came, Kambli became the target of the establishment which was unable to deal with someone who was different than the rest,” Gavaskar wrote in a newspaper column.

“Surya is fortunate that while he too suffered in his initial years because he was like Kambli, a bit flamboyant and different in his off the field demenaour, the establishment had more people who were smart enough to look at his cricket and not how he wore his clothes or coloured his hair,” he further wrote.

Sunny (as Gavaskar is popularly known by fans) heaped praise on India’s Mr 360 degree batsman ‘SKY’ for his explosive ton against hosts New Zealand in the second T20I.

“Even the opposition captain described SKY’s superlative knock as incredible,” said Gavaskar.
