Gold Coast (Australia): Odisha's star athlete Purnima Hembram kept the hope of medal alive for India by finishing second in the 100 metre hurdles of women's Heptathlon event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Thursday.

Purnima finished the heats with her personal best time of 13.56 seconds. Elizabeth Dadzie of Ghana came first with a timing of 13.49 seconds.

Purnima has a total of 1041 points in her kitty.

Earlier, another Odia gymnast Rakesh Patra disappointed by finishing last in the eight-men Rings final on Sunday. He finished with a score of 12.933 and was out of the medal race.

Meanwhile, India continued to be at third spot in medals tally with 14 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals at the 21st Commonweath Games.
