Balangir: After a brief lull, the Lower Suktel Action Committee once again stepped up its agitation demanding an expedition of construction work for the Lower Suktel project in the Balangir district.

The committee members resumed its fast-unto-death strike in front of the collector's office today after taking out a rally in the town. Intellectuals, common people, and many social organizations from the district, however, supported the committee’s struggle for the irrigation project.

Earlier in September, the outfit had sat on an indefinite strike demanding the execution of the project. The state Government’s representatives had discussed with the strike holders and assured them of beginning the work soon following which agitators had called up a stir.

Even though the government began construction of the project on September 27, the locals stalled the work mid-way alleging that the government did not consider the basic problems they were suffering due to the construction of the project. The district also witnessed a bandh called by the committee for the early execution of the project.
