‘Sexually harassed’ by BJD leader, woman attempts self-immolation outside Naveen Niwas

Bhubaneswar: A woman today brought sexual harassment charges against BJD candidate from Udala Assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj, Srinath Soren and attempted to immolate herself outside the residence of CM Naveen Patnaik.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be established, poured petrol on her body when she was rescued by some security personnel and police deployed outside Naveen Niwas.

The woman alleged that she was sexually harassed by Srinath Soren but no action has been taken against him so far.

She was taken into custody by the police and later sent to hospital for treatment.

The woman claimed that though she had lodged a complaint with the police, her grievance was not addressed.

Soren, on the other hand, rejected the allegation and claimed that he did not know her. “This could be a conspiracy against me by my political rivals,” Soren said.

Though she poured kerosene on her body, security people did not allow her to set herself on fire,” Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo, said.
