Berhampur: Mobile phones and gutkha packets were found in a government-run observation home for juvenile offenders here, officials said on Monday.

"These materials were seized during a raid by the district administration on Saturday," Berhampur Tehsildar Rasmi Ranjan Nayak who was on magistrate duty said.

Superintendent of the home H K Kar, however, refused to give details. "I cant say anything about the raids."

The home with 82 inmates recently went on hunger-strike in protest against alleged irregularities and misbehaviour by some staff.

The staff had, on the ther hand, urged the administration to provide protection alleging that some inmates had attacked them.

About two years ago at least ten inmates had escaped from the home breaking open a window after assaulting the head warder.
