Cuttack: Trapped between the dilemma of implementing the law versus public sentiment, the illegal religious structure demolition drive in Cuttack seems to be getting into a jinx as the matter has now reached the Chief Minister’s table.

On Friday, three Cuttack MLAs - Debashish Smantaray, Kalindi Behera and Pravat Biswal took up the matter with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who assured to look into the issue.

“The CM asked a delegation from Cuttack to meet the Law Minister to address the issue,” Debashis Samantaray, MLA, Barabati said after meeting Patnaik.

“The demolition of temples has hurt religious sentiments of people”, Samantaray added.

On the other hand, unperturbed by Thursday’s bandh, which brought the normal life in the millennium city to standstill, the district administration resumed the exercise and pulled down several religious structures built on encroached government land in the city on Friday.

Meanwhile public protest continued in the city and vehicular traffic was also disrupted due to road blockade by locals.

As per reports, 12 persons have been arrested by the police while staging demonstration against the exercise.

To avoid any untoward incident, the district administration has deployed 10 platoons of police force in some vulnerable areas of the city.
