Bhubaneswar: As state capital Bhubaneswar turned 64 on Friday, demands were made from different quarters for giving it the status of a district besides undertaking overall developmental activities.

"I strongly demand before the state government to make Bhubaneswar a separate district," senior BJD leader and local MP Prasanna Patsani said while addressing a meeting held on the occasion of Capital Day.

Elaborating government`s plan for development of the state capital, revenue and disaster minister S N Patro said steps were being taken to develop its peripheral areas.

Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat asked residents to make the city green by undertaking massive plantation.

A host of dignitaries including all the three MLAs and one MP from the capital city attended the function organised by the Rajdhai Pratistha Committee.

Students of 49 schools participated in a colourful parade while various competitions were organised on the occasion, said committee vice-president Pradumnya Kumar Mohanty.
