Cuttack: Tension erupted at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack today after a minor boy died allegedly due to negligence in treatment.

As per reports, the family members initially rushed the child to City hospital and Sishu Bhawan after he reportedly fell down from the stairs of their house at CDA area in Cuttack at around 2:30 pm yesterday. Later, they rushed him to SCB after failing to seek necessary medical assistance at Sishu bhawan.

“As per the advice of doctors at SCB, we had conducted CT scan and other tests. The doctors however asked us to take the boy home after seeing the medical reports. But again we had to rush him to SCB late last night after he started vomiting,” said Mantu Das, a relative.

Das alleged that without treating the child, the doctors asked us to take the boy home, which has led to his death.

Protesting such negligence, the family members and other attendants staged a demonstration by placing the body of the child and later locked the doctors’ chamber inside the casualty wing of the premier State-run hospital.

Following the incident, senior officials of Mangalabag police and SCB outpost reached the spot to pacify the agitators.

The authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital, however, could not be contacted over the allegations. More details awaited.
