Bhubaneswar: Fear gripped senior citizens over insecurity in the state capital after Khandagiri police on Monday found the body of a septuagenarian in his house at Kalinga Nagar in the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been indentified as Balaram Sahu (68), a retired bank officer. The body of Sahu was found in the first floor of his four storey building at plot no 35 in Block- K8 of the area. Prima facie it is found that Sahu was strangulated to death as his hands and legs were tied with a plastic rope.

Police said, Sahu was staying alone as his five daughters and wife are residing outside the state.

On Monday evening Sahu’s neighbours informed police after they did not find any activity in his house since Saturday night. “We cannot rule out planned murder” a police officer said.

According to sources, Sahu was involved in land dispute and some miscreants had attacked him few days back near his house.

“He was probably killed on Saturday night. We have informed his wife and children” Khandagiri police station IIC Sanjeev Satapathy said.
