9-Yr-Old Girl ‘Raped’ By Neighbour In Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: A nine-year-old girl has allegedly been sexually assaulted by a youth in a village under the jurisdiction of Sukinda police station in Jajpur district. Accused youth Gouranga happens to be her neighbour, police said.

The incident came to the fore on Sunday after the girl's family lodged a complaint with the local police.

According to the complaint, the accused raped the minor girl after luring her with Rs 10 and some chocolates when she was alone in her house. Reportedly, the girl’s parents had gone outside to look after their agricultural field when the incident happened.

Later, the survivor narrated the entire incident to her mother, the complaint mentioned.

Subash Chandra Das, Investigating Officer, Sukinda PS, said, “The girl’s father is a security guard and his wife works as a caretaker in a hospital. As per the complaint, the accused, who happens to be their neighbour, took advantage of their absence and raped the minor girl. Narrating the incident to her mother, the girl said that the youth touched her private parts and then sexually assaulted her.”

The medical examination of the victim was conducted at the hospital, he said, adding, Gouranga was also taken for medical examination.

The accused was arrested after a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act, and he will be forwarded to court once the medical reports are out, Das said.
