Ganjam: As many as 87 class IX students of Pattapur Girl's High School(PGHS) under Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam, passed their annual examination without evaluation of their answer sheets.

The incident reportedly came to the fore after the District Education Officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda conducted a surprise visit to the school on Wednesday.

While interacting with the students, Panda came to know that the students had not received their answer sheets of class IX annual exam, following which, the DEO sought explanation from the teachers who were present at the school. However, after not getting any satisfactory answer, the DEO himself searched for the answer papers and found them in an almirah.

Sources said that headmaster of the school, Samirkant Tripathy and a clerical staff R. Draupadi were absent when the DEO arrived at the school.

Later, Panda suspended the headmaster and issued a show-cause notice to three other school teachers. Even the school committee was unaware about the incident which has been condemned by parents and intellectuals, added the sources.
