Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths have registered cases against three engineers of rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) department in Ganjam district for alleged irregularities in construction of a pipe water project at Lathi village on the outskirt of Berhampur.

The case was registered against Sitaram Panda, executive engineer, RWSS, Berhampur Division, Bighneswar Panda, assistant engineer, Chhatrapur and Kukudakhandi block junior engineer Ashok Kumar Mishra, vigilance sources said.

The three engineers against whom cases have been registered were not immediately available for comment.

The anti-corruption sleuths were digging out several irregularities in execution of the Rs 50 lakh pipe water supply project at Lathi in 2007. The project took around three years to complete in 2010.

"During investigation, we have detected several deviations on the project," Vigilance SP (Berhampur) JN Hansdah said.

The deviations were detected in a number of constructions of the pump houses, water tanks, installation of the pipes besides sub-standard works, which costs irregularities of over Rs 18 lakh, sources added.

The Vigilance took up the matter for investigation, when they received complaints about large-scale corruption on execution of the pipe water project.

The vigilance had earlier registered at least three other cases in connection with irregularities in execution of pipe water supply projects in different places in Ganjam district. These projects included Pathara in Khaliikote block, Kalabada in Chikiti block and in Bhanjanagar.
