Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh on Saturday said over 5000 additional posts would be created in the Odisha Police very soon of which 4000 constables of the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) would be engaged in civil policing.

“To strengthen the Odisha Police, the state government has sanctioned more than 5000 posts to the civilian police to increase its strength and deal with the rising incidence of crime, law and order and industrial problems. By first of January, we will convert about 4000-odd OAPF personnel into civilian police, who will be deployed in the district police headquarters and police stations on the basis of their manpower requirement. With this additional deployment, workload of these police stations would be much lighter. The civilian police would be more accessible to the public and will be a part of community policing. Besides, they will also manage the reception desk,” Singh told mediapersons here.

The DGP said the process of recruitment would be completed by January.
