Rourkela/Rairangpur: In a tragic incident, two persons including a woman were trampled to death by elephants in separate incidents in Sundergarh and Mayurbhanj districts on Tuesday morning.

The deceased woman was identified as Phuduli Singh of Relaposha village under Kunwarmunda forest range in Sundergarh district. The incident occurred when Phuduli was asleep in the room. The jumbo attacked the house and later dragged her out and mauled.

On being informed, police and forest officials rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Sources said, more than 50 pachyderms were seen wreaking havoc in the areas for last few days.

In another incident, Barisa Murmu of Vijatala village under Rairangpur forest division in Mayurbhanj district was also killed in an attack by a jumbo.

According to sources, the tusker attacked the man when he had gone to the forest for his daily chores.
Meanwhile, carcass of a two-month old elephant calf was found near Ganeshkhola under Sarangi range in Dhenkanal district. However, reason behind the death has not yet ascertained.
