Berhampur: Vital information about Maoist plans and their network have been uncovered by police during an ongoing combing operation in the forests of Ganjam-Kandhamal border near here, officials said today.

The joint combing operation by Orissa Police, CRPF and COBRA personnel is on for the third day today and a Maoist camp in the forest in Daringbadi in Kandhamal district has been destroyed.

A large cache of arms, kitbags, CDs, booklets and some documents belonging to the Maoists were seized during the operation, they said.

DIG (Southern Range) R K Sharma said police were studying the documents. "The seized documents revealed information about the network of Maoists and their plans. It`ll take some time to reach a conclusion," he said.

The training camp, believed to have been set up several months ago, was unearthed by security personnel during an aerial survey. At least 30 to 40 ultras are under training there but all of them managed to flee after a heavy exchange of fire with security personnel on Friday, he said.

"It is suspected that they (Maoists) were planning an attack similar to the Nayagarh mayhem of 2008 in which 13 police personnel were killed," Sharma said.
