Nuapada: A Maoist cadre carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head surrendered before Nuapada SP on Saturday. The rebel identified as Parsuram Dharua alias Parsuram Majhi was involved in a number of Maoist activities since 2014.

Majhi, who was forcibly inducted into the Mainpur-Nuapada division of the CPI (Maoist), operated in Nuapada, Kalahandi and Gariyaband areas for the rebels.

According to police, Majhi laid down arms following rise in anti-Naxal operations by security forces and torture by Maoist leaders of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

"The Maoist cadre has surrendered before district police today. He was actively involved in several Maoist activities in different parts of the State," said Smith P Parmar.

Odisha government had earlier announced a cash reward on Majhi's head. The surrendered rebel will be rehabilitated as per surrender policy of the State government, Parmar added.
