Lawyers ransack in Sambalpur, protest in capital
Sambalpur: Sambalpur Lawyers Association gheraoed the district Collector and ransacked assets of the residential office today protesting against hike in land registration fee. Members of the association also demonstrated dharna in front of the sub-registrar office.
The incident occurred when the lawyers, on their way also to protest frequent power-cut at Burla WESCO office, engaged in a scuffle while district Collector Mrinalini Jaiswal tried to resolve the issue.
The lawyers alleged that they were misbehaved by the Collector. The agitators gheroed the Collector for a long time in side the office premises, though police rescued the Collector later.
The irked advocates then ransacked assets and vehicles in the residential office of the Collector ablazing some official documents. The Collector alleged that she was assaulted by some lawyers.
In another incident lawyers in Bhubaneswar staged protest on the Bhubaneswar-Puri road over four hours and resorted to a road blockade protesting against the shifting of sub-registrar office to Chandrasekharpur. The minister concerned however said that a decision would be taken on this after May 26.
