Malkanagiri: Forty quintals of contraband worth over Rs 2 crore in international market was seized from Orkel area in Maoist-prone Malkanagiri district on Wednesday, police said.

Acting on a tip off, a police team conducted a raid at Sorulukunda barrage in the early hours when the ganja was being transported from a hilly area by the gang members with armed escort, Inspector In-charge of Orkel police station Anirudh Rout said.

Altogether 133 people were arrested and the entire contraband weighing about 40 quintal seized, he said adding the seized ganja was valued at around Rs two crore in the international market.

The contraband was being sent to Chhattisgarh by the gang members, who belonged to Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district and nearby Nawarangpur district.

A case has been registered and the arrested were being interrogated, he said.
