Cuttack: Orissa High Court today directed the State government to form a committee under the chairmanship of chief secretary G.C. Pati to review law and order situation in Odisha.

While hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the robbery at retired HC judge P.K. Mohanty’s residence in CDA, a two-judge bench pronounced in its interim order that the committee should include DGP, police commissioner, DCPs and SPs of all the districts.

Besides, the court asked the government to ensure tight security in urban areas of the State. Police should conduct checks at entry points of cities from 10 pm to 7 am, the HC added.

In its directive, the court also asked the government to transfer the police official who is in-charge of Markatnagar police station here.

On June 1, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had summoned DGP Sanjeev Marik and police commissioner R. P. Sharma to the Secretariat to know about the steps taken by the police in connection with the robbery at Justice Mohanty’s residence.
