Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the State Government to conduct a special Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to fill up the vacant seats in B tech course and a second entrance test for admission into MCA and MBA courses in technical colleges of the State.
The Court directed the technical education and training department while adjudicating a petition filed by Odisha Private Engineering Colleges Association (OPECA) seeking special test for B tech. OPECA, in its plea, apprised the court that section- 3 of Odisha Professional Educational Act was violated after Odisha JEE was cancelled and admission was taken place as per the all India main entrance exam.
The organisation alleged that the test, which was conducted without the amendment of the act, has led to large scale vacancies in State colleges.
On the other hand, Technical education and training minister Sanjay Dasburma reviewed the vacancies in engineering colleges. He promised a second phase counseling to be conducted between August 4 and 15.
The Government has decided to consult Fee Structure committee over the fee hike issue in government and private colleges which might lead to the vacancies, Dasburma said.
