Cuttack: From the cries of a baby to chirping of birds, Debadutta Samal of Cuttack can mimic voices of several animals and human beings. For his unique talent, Samal earned the moniker as ‘mimicry man’ of the millennium city, but he is now struggling to earn a living.

Fourty nine-year-old Debadutta has the ability to tickle funny bones as he can imitate the voice of popular cartoon characters including Doland Duck, Tom and Jerry. “I learnt a lot from TV cartoons. I still remember the day when my father had beaten me for watching TV instead of focusing on my career,” said Debadutta.

Despite all odds, Samal kept on practicing and now he is quite popular in the city for his talent.

However, Samal is now struggling to eke out a decent living. His fans believe that with little encouragement, Samal can go a long way to bring laurels for the State.

“I have known him (Samal) for over 20 years. Despite his unique talent, he is facing problems to make his ends meet. We urge the administration to provide support to Samal so that his talent is not wasted,” said Prabhat Senapati, a local resident.
