"We have decided to suspend our ongoing strike till March 15 in view of the matter now being adjudicated by the High Court. However, the general body of the Association will meet again on March 15 to chalk out the further course of action," informed an office bearer of the bar association.
Meanwhile, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices Indrajit Mohanti and Raghuvir Dash admitted the writ filed by the Cuttack bar Association general secretary Nityananda Beuria and asked the state government counsel to get instructions from the government within 24 hours on the pertinent issue of instituting a judicial enquiry into the contentious issue.
The police officers association in the state too have called for a judicial enquiry into the matter. The Cuttack lawyers are boycotting the courts for last 12 days demanding action against a city police inspector, who had allegedly assaulted a city civil court lawyer.
While the police inspector had been denying the allegations, the police associations have thrown their weight behind him and have threatened to go on mass leave if action is taken against any policeman unilaterally without any investigation.
