Jeypore: Proving its faithfulness, a dog bravely fought off with a venomous cobra to save the life of his owner and his family in Jeypore Town of Koraput district.

According to one Sanjeev Tripathy, a native of Power House Colony of the town, his pet dog, which he fondly calls 'Doggy,' spotted a spectacled cobra near the entrance of their house and pounced on it from sneaking into their house at around 3 PM on Sunday.

Narrating about the incident, Tripathy said that he rushed out of his house suspecting something problematic after hearing the dog's incessant barking but much to his surprise he found that it faced off against a cobra in front of their house.

"The dog fought with the reptile for nearly 30 minutes by attacking it with claws and also biting its body. Though the snake repeatedly lurched to bite the dog, every time it did so, the dog pounced on the cobra before its hood even reached it. Finally, the dog tore the reptile into two pieces," he said.

Tripathy called a snake helpline member immediately who rescued the injured cobra from the house. Expressing happiness Tripathy lauded his dog for not only saving his family but also smartly saving itself from suffering any kind of attack by the reptile.

Speaking about the condition of the snake, founder of Wild Animal Rescue Team on Environmental Awareness and Management (WAR TEAM), Krishna Keshaba Sadangi said, "After getting information about the incident, we tried to save the snake, however, the veterinarian informed that its condition was extremely serious and there was slim chance of its survival."
