Wet Dussehra! Low Pressure over BoB becomes well-marked, likely to turn into depression tomorrow

The low-pressure area formed over the southwest and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Friday has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

The weather bureau said the system is likely to turn into a depression on Sunday.

Speaking to OTV, IMD scientist Umashankar Das said, “The low pressure area will move towards north-west and is likely to intensify into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal on Sunday.”

After that it will gradually re-curve north north-eastwards towards Bangladesh coast, he informed.

With the depression moving near the coast of Odisha, it is likely to bring rains dampening the Dussehra celebrations in the State.

As per the IMD, several districts including the coastal Odisha are likely to receive rain on October 23 and 24.

Forecast:

Day-1: (Valid from 8:30 am of 23.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 24.10.23)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Day-2: (Valid from 8:30 am of 24.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 25.10.2023)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal
