Red Alert issued for Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Twin City as temperature soars

The regional weather department on Saturday sounded ‘red alert’ for the Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, amidst extreme heat wave conditions. The Regional Meteorological Centre here labeled Cuttack and Bhubaneswar as ‘red alert’ areas with people at the risk of heat stroke and illness.

Issuing a warning alert, the weather department urged people to take ‘extreme care’ and avoid stepping out of the house under the scorching sun. On Saturday, Bhubaneswar witnessed mercury level of 41.2 degree Celsius by 11:30 am, even before mid-noon. 

Similarly, Jharsuguda once again remained the hottest place in Odisha with temperature touching 41.4 degree Celsius followed by 40.6 degree in Keonjhar, 40.1 degree in Balasore, 40 degree in Sambalpur, 39.6 degree in Chandbali, 39 degree in Hirakud, 38.6 degree in Rourkela, 34.4 degree in Puri and Gopalpur and 33.5 degree in Paradip.

Meanwhile, the MeT department has predicted a rise in the maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees in several parts of Odisha until May 30.

As per reports, heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in districts of Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada and Angul.
