New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Saturday sought to drive a wedge in the BJP over Uma Bharti`s meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi, saying she cannot gain her desired position in the party which had "used and thrown her."

"My advice to her (Uma Bharti) is that she should keep on meeting Sonia Gandhi. It will be to her advantage...because BJP had used and thrown her and now she will never get the position which she desires," Singh told reporters here.

Bharti today met Sonia to demand a quick and effective action to save river Ganga and prevent parties from playing politics over the issue.

Digvijay Singh is a known detractor of Bharti who had succeeded him as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh about eight years back.

Asked about election-bound Uttar Pradesh, where Bharti has been made in-charge of the BJP after her return to the party, Singh said Bharti should go about the task there as per her party chief Nitin Gadkari`s advice.

Digvijay Singh is the Congress General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh.
