After the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, India are all set to play against formidable Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) at The Oval in London starting from June 7.

As per batting legend and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, the biggest task for the Indian players will be switching from the T20 mode to playing red-ball cricket.

Hinting at the recently concluded IPL, the Little Master indicated that both the formats are completely different and it’s going to be a big challenge for Team India players in the all-important WTC final.

“The biggest test will be the fact that just about everybody will be coming out of a T20 format, and Test cricket is a longer format. So, I think that is going to be the big challenge for India players,” said Gavaskar during an interview.

“India have only Cheteshwar Pujara who has been playing in the English County Championship. So, he will be the only guy who has played the longer format in these conditions. That is going to be the big challenge for them,” the former cricketer added.

Gavaskar feels that veteran Ajinkya Rahane’s experience of playing in English conditions will be useful for India.

“Rahane has a lot of experience in England. He has scored runs in England. I think he is going to be crucial down at number five. I do believe he has a point to prove. I still feel he has got plenty of cricket left in him and this is a wonderful opportunity for him,” Gavaskar added.
