In what could be a piece of delightful news to the fans, ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has been appointed as the mentor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise for the forthcoming season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Following an illustrious career, Sania will retire from the game after playing her last tournament in Dubai Open.

As per RCB management, Sania’s appointment as the mentor of the franchise would come as a massive motivation for the players. It is no secret that Sania loves cricket and she has often been spotted at many cricketing venues.

Sania recently made it to the final of the Australian Open mixed doubles with his compatriot partner Rohan Bopanna.

RCB has bought explosive batter Smriti Mandhana with a whooping sum of Rs 3.4 crore. As per team sources, Mandhana is all set to be captain of the team as well.

Notably, the inaugural edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 will begin with a high-voltage clash between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium on March 4.

In its first season, the WPL will stage a total of 20 league matches and two Playoff games that will be played in a period of 23 days.

The league has five teams in the fray for the inaugural edition and those are-- Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz.
