After the match against Australia, Team India will again miss promising batter Shubman Gill in their upcoming match against Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the development.

As per BCCI sources, Gill will be under the supervision of a medical team and he will stay back in Chennai. He will not be travelling with the team to Delhi today.

It is an unfortunate development for India as Gill had an exceptional last 12 months for India, especially in the limited-overs format. The 24-year-old is India’s leading run-getter in ODIs this year. The young opener has amassed 1,230 runs at an average of 72.35 and at a strike rate of 105.03.

Earlier, Gill couldn’t play in India’s campaign opener against Australia as he is suffering from dengue.

In absence of Gill, Ishan Kishan opened for India along with skipper Rohit Sharma against formidable Australia. However, he failed miserably. Still the Men in Blue managed to upstage Australia by six wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
