Empty stands in ODI World Cup 2023 opener
ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 kicked off at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Defending champions England locked horns with New Zealand in the inaugural match of the mega event.
Fans across the globe are excited for the competition. Moreover, the organisers were all ready for a full house at the venue. However, the social media was left stunned by the lack of crowd for the tournament opener as barely one fourth of the venue was filled.
Several fans took to social media to post pictures of the empty stands. They wondered why the crowd was not present despite massive ticket sales ahead of the marquee event. England women’s cricketer Danielle Wyatt also expressed her disappointment over the development.
“Where’s the crowd!?” wrote Wyatt on her X (earlier known as Twitter) account.
“Really hope the Stadium gets filled a bit by evening. The World Cup opener deserves more public on the stands!” tweeted another fan.
“Opening match of World Cup 2023 in front of empty stands. Yeh tickets toh Sold out ho gayi thi na ?? Its Sad,” a third user commented.
