Several fans and experts were surprised when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided to leave out speedster Umran Malik from the playing XI for their last few games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan has been disappointed with the move by the team who is languishing on the bottom of the table. As per Zaheer, SRH did a poor job of managing the 23-year-old pacer.

“I felt Umran Malik has not been handled well by SRH in the way he should have been handled and in the way his services should have been utilised by SRH. That’s something which was evident,” said Zaheer during his commentary.

Zaheer was also of the opinion that Umran is not getting proper supervision at SRH.

“When you are talking about a young seamer, you are also looking at creating that environment and support. Proper guidance is also required. Unfortunately that was not seen by SRH. That is why he has a poor season like this,” the former Team India pacer said.

Notably, Umran had bagged the Emerging Player of the Tournament award in 2022. Based on his brilliant show in the last edition of IPL, the bowler from Jammu & Kashmir also earned his T20I and ODI debuts for India. He won the hearts of many cricketing greats with his searing pace in the limited opportunities he received. However, Umran has a very poor IPL season in 2023. The young pacer has played only seven games in IPL 2023. He has bagged five wickets at an economy rate of 10.35.
