The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 16th season will be held on December 23, 2022 in Kochi, Kerala. 

The season-16 of the cash rich league is scheduled to start from March 25, 2023 and continue till May 28, 2023.

As many as 991 players, which include 714 from India and 277 overseas players, have registered for the mini-auction, which will be held in the lead-up to a second successive 10-team season.

Australian players dominate the list of 277 registered overseas players, as 57 players from the Kangaroo nation have signed up for the mini auction. South Africa (52), West Indies (33) and England (31) are among the countries with significant number of players who have registered for the auction.

Meanwhile, as many as 19 capped Indian players have registered for the auction. A total of 20 players from associate nations have also signed up for the mini auction. A total of 185 capped and 786 uncapped players will be in fray.

The list comes weeks after the 10 IPL franchises submitted their list of released and retained players.

BCCI did not release the names of the players. All the 991 registered players will be short-listed shortly ahead of the auction.

- Uncapped Internationals (88 players)
