Hosts India had a major blow before the start of the Test series against Australia when star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the first two matches.

The unorthodox bowler has been suffering from a back issue for quite a long time. He hasn’t played for the Men in Blue since September 25, 2022. There were hopes that Bumrah would strengthen India’s pace battery by playing in the final two Tests.

However it was reported last week that he would miss the entire Test series against Australia as he is yet to recover from the prolonged injury

As per sources, the 29-year-old pacer will also miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia as well.

Following the conclusion of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India and Australia will lock horns in the ODI series with three matches scheduled to be played on March 17, 19, and 22. However, Bumrah is not fit enough to play in the ODI series. The express pacer is likely to make a comeback with the 2023 edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bumrah’s recovery has been very slow and BCCI is unlikely to rush him in the three ODIs against Australia. His kind of bowling will be needed for the all-important World Test Championship final at the Oval in London from June 7–11. He will also be a utility player for the ODI World Cup in India at the end of the year.

Notably, fans have earlier rapped Bumrah for giving importance to IPL and skipping India matches to be fully fit for the cash-rich League.
