Former India wicketkeeper-batsman and selector Kiran More has backed promising batter and Captain Cool MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad as a future captaincy contender for Team India.

As per More, the 26-year-old batsman has got a great temperament. He added that Gaikwad must have learned things like handling the team and tough situations while playing for CSK under Dhoni in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Ruturaj can be the future captain of India as well. He has got a great temperament. He is playing under Dhoni. So, he must have learnt things about handling the team and handling the tough situations. He is a quality player and I am waiting for him to make his Test debut,” said More during an interview.

“Both Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal are outstanding players. Ruturaj can play all formats, his basics are so correct,” the former selector added.

Notably, Gaikwad is a part of India’s ongoing three-match T20I series against Ireland in Dublin. India are currently leading the three match T20 series 1-0 after winning the first match by two runs via DLS method.

Emerging batsman Gaikwad made his IPL debut in 2020. He has played a pivotal role for CSK since then. He has made a majority of his appearances under Dhoni’s leadership.
