Odisha witnessed 78.3 per cent voters turnout in the second phase voting in the ongoing three-tier panchayat polls held on Friday, the State Election Commission (SEC) said on Saturday.

As per an official release issued by the SEC, Sonepur district recorded the highest 85.67 per cent voter turnout followed by Jharsuguda (85.14), Boudh (84.9), Kalahandi (83.81), Gajapati (82.69) and Gajapati (82.69).

Ganjam district recorded the lowest turnout with 64.86 per cent. In the first phase polls, the district had also witnessed a low turnout of voters.

The second phase polls were held at 20,436 booths in 1,514 panchayats in 68 blocks across the state.

In the first phase of panchayat elections held on February 16, 77.2 per cent polling was recorded in the state. Boudh district recorded the highest 84.7 per cent voter turnout followed by Deogarh (83.75), Jharsuguda (82.1), Angul (82.6), Subarnapur (81.56), Kalahandi (81.12), Nabarangpur (80.54) and Koraput (80.2).
