Odia ‘mahuri’ music to add traditional flavour to Republic Day parade in Delhi
The Republic Day parade in Delhi this year will be enriched by the traditional melodies of the mahuri, a distinguished musical instrument from Odisha.
A group of 15 dedicated musicians from Mayurbhanj district have been chosen to enthral audiences with their performance on the renowned ‘Kartavya Path’.
As per reports, the musicians have already arrived in the national capital. They are currently engrossed in rehearsals, eagerly preparing to present the cultural legacy of their homeland on such a prestigious national stage.
The ‘mahuri’ holds a place of pride in Odia tradition, being central to the Chhau dance form, a traditional performing art intrinsic to the state’s cultural tapestry. Additionally, the mahuri is also a familiar sound at various celebratory occasions such as weddings throughout Odisha.
