Husband kills wife, sits beside her body all night in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

A man allegedly beat his wife to death following a heated argument over a domestic dispute and later stayed by her body the whole night in Tangasole village under Chandua police station limits in the Mayurbhanj district late Friday night.

Sources reported that the shocking incident occurred late last night when the accused husband, Charan Bhakta, killed his wife, Savita Bhakta, by repeatedly assaulting her with a wooden plank. Reports also added that after murdering his wife, Bhakta did not flee but rather threw the body near the veranda and stayed beside it the entire night.

Neighbours and nearby locals added that the couple had married about six years before and also had two kids.

Heated Argument Over Phone:

According to neighbours, the couple had a heated argument the previous night over a phone call. After initial altercations, family members of the duo intervened, and the matter cooled down. However, last night, they again engaged in heated exchanges, during which Bhakta allegedly killed his wife in a fit of rage.

The gruesome discovery was made in the morning, after which locals informed the police, who reached the spot, detained the accused, and are conducting an investigation.

Police response:

Meanwhile, the accused, in his words, admitted to the crime but insisted that it was his wife who began attacking him first. As such, he claimed that his act was simply for self-defence purposes. However, the police maintained that the actual circumstances and events leading to the crime would be ascertained after a detailed probe.
