Similipal shivers in cold wave condition
The persistent coldwave blowing over Odisha since the start of 2025 intensified further last night as nine cities slipped below 10 degrees Celsius. On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Kandhamal's G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest place across all districts with mercury plummeting down to 5 degrees Celsius while Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature among all cities in the state at 8 degrees.
As per data released by the Bhubaneswar centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a total of nine places in Odisha recorded intense chill and temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius along with Phulbani and G. Udayagiri. Semiliguda shivered at (5.9), Daringbadi (8.5), Koraput (9.4), Rourkela (9.5), and Jharsuguda, Bhawanipatna, and Nabarangpur all at 9.8 degrees Celsius followed thereafter.
Meanwhile, the MeT also predicted that there would be no respite in sight from the cold wave for at least the next 24 hours. Nail-biting cold along with fog is likely over several parts of the state until tomorrow owing to cold winds sweeping into the state from the north.
However, after tomorrow, temperatures may increase slightly by at least 2 to 3 degrees Celsius owing to a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan may bring rainfall to North India over this week.
In the meantime, the weather also continued to remain chilly and cold over the twin cities. While Bhubaneswar recorded a low of 14.5 degrees Celsius last night, Cuttack dipped to 14 degrees Celsius.
