Bangladeshi woman engaged as 'sex worker'
A significant police operation was undertaken in Bhubaneswar on Monday after the arrest of a couple in Cuttack over suspected human trafficking. The police administration executed raids at ten different locations throughout the Capital City.
According to sources, law enforcement agencies have uncovered several photographs of women from Bangladesh, allegedly circulated by those involved in human trafficking.
The Director General of Police (DGP)-Odisha had previously stated that a detailed probe is underway to ascertain how the Bangladeshi women crossed the border into India. In light of this incident, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has heightened its vigil to effectively combat similar activities.
Worth mentioning, earlier in the day, the Commissionerate Police arrested a married couple in Odisha’s Cuttack in connection with the sex trafficking case involving a minor girl from neighbouring Bangladesh.
Officials from the Madhupatana Police Station detained the couple following the rescue of the minor who was forced into the flesh trade in a massage parlour by the couple to generate income. Later, the duo was forwarded to a local court. Following the arrest, the couple was interrogated by the police, during which they admitted to the crime.
Further inquiries revealed that the couple conducted the illegal activity from a rented house, prompting the police to investigate the potential involvement of the property owner, if any. The questioning was underway to gather more information.
Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena informed that the cops are exploring possible links to other individuals within the network.
“We have recorded the statement of the victim. Since she is a minor, her statement is strong evidence, and based on it, the couple was forwarded to court,” the DCP stated to mediapersons.
