The house in which dacoity took place
An armed robbery was reported late Friday night at Balisahi village of Bhuinpur panchayat under Aul police limits in Kendrapara district. The dacoity gang decamped with valuables worth more than Rs 12 Lakh, including cash and gold ornaments.
According to police sources, a group of around five armed dacoits barged into the house of Narayan Sahoo, causing destruction as they made their way through. The assailants made off with gold jewellery valued at Rs 10 Lakh and an additional Rs 2 Lakh in cash.
The miscreants broke open the main entrance to gain access to the residence, subsequently confining the family members by locking their bedroom door from outside. They are alleged to have forcibly accessed a locker kept in a separate room and looted the valuables.
Following the burglary at Sahoo’s residence, the group attempted to victimise three other houses in the same village. However, their loot bid was foiled as some villagers congregated after hearing shouts, forcing the dacoits to leave their pursuits and flee.
On being informed by house owner Sahoo, Aul Police team reached the spot and launched a detailed probe into the dacoity.
“We were locked by the dacoits from outside in our bedroom. Around five persons had entered our house and looted Rs 2 Lakh cash along with jewellery of over Rs 10 Lakh. We contacted our neighbours over mobile phone and they released us,” Sahoo said.
Worth mentioning, a spate of burglaries swept through Kendrapara district, with some unidentified perpetrators targeting at least seven locations in a single night in Aul block, on January 8th night. They stole valuables worth over lakhs of rupees.
Among the affected sites was the Malapatana Bhatua Bata Ashram, where a CCTV camera captured at least two miscreants allegedly breaking in and fleeing with the stolen items after forcefully opening a donation box (Hundi) kept on the Ashram premises.
